We often feel pains in our lives that we cannot explain; a scent triggers a nameless fear, or a family tradition binds us to where we stand like a chain. Centuries ago, ancient wisdom summarized this: “The child is the secret of the father.”
Today, science proves how this “secret” is etched into our DNA (Epigenetics) through studies such as the “Dutch Hunger Winter” and “Cherry Blossom” experiments. So, are we victims suffering for the sins of our ancestors? Or are we spiritual alchemists who have been sent to that specific lineage because the soul needs that “secret” to evolve, possessing the power to turn that lead into gold?
The Wisdom of Seth: The Dimension of Gift and Grace
Muhyiddin Ibn al-Arabi details this ancient saying in the second chapter of his work Fusus al-Hikam, titled “The Wisdom of Seth.”
- The State of Mirroring: According to Ibn al-Arabi, Seth (a.s.) is a perfect mirror of Adam (a.s.). The “secret” lies with the father; it is the transformation of all the potential the father possesses into “action” within the child.
- Spiritual Heritage: This is not merely a biological inheritance, but the transfer of a spiritual path or knowledge to those who are “worthy.” Just as water takes the shape of the vessel it is poured into, Divine grace is shaped according to the reality of the servant at that moment.
The Silence of the Seed: The Secret of the Father
In alchemy, every great transformation begins with an essence that seems small and ordinary.
- The Seed (Father/Soul): The heart of the equation.
- The Soil (Mother/Nafis): The one who decodes and invites that secret into life.
- The Great Oak (Child): The manifestation of the divine wisdom within the seed in the physical realm.
Ancient teachings suggest that a child is the embodiment of everything from the father’s food to his state of mind, fears, and intentions—all seeded as a secret. A state hidden in the father’s inner world becomes manifest in the child.
Understanding our ancestral roots is the first step toward universal Altruism, as we heal not only ourselves but our entire lineage.
The Junction of Science and Sufism: Epigenetics
What ancient teachings call a “secret,” modern science calls Epigenetic Inheritance. Although the letters of our DNA do not change, the stress, fear, or trauma experienced by our ancestors attaches “chemical tags” to our genes.
- The Piano Metaphor: If our DNA is a piano, epigenetics is how we play it. The keys (genes) remain the same, but which note is struck how hard, or which section remains silent, depends on ancestral factors.
- The Cherry Blossom Experiment: Descendants of mice taught to fear a specific scent (Cherry Blossom) felt panic the moment they smelled it, even if they had never encountered the scent or the shock before.
The Path to Healing: Bringing the Secret to Consciousness
Do we have to live with the sting of these “sour plums” (ancestral burdens)? The soul chooses the most suitable lineage and parents as a magnet to learn a specific lesson.
Steps for a Spiritual Software Update:
- Analyze the File: Ask, “To whom does this fear or sense of unworthiness belong?” When you name the file (e.g., Grandfather_Poverty_Fear), the system makes it “visible” rather than “hidden.”
- Reboot the System: Epigenetics changes genetic switches when we display a new behavior. Speak where they were silent; step with confidence where they were afraid.
The Seal: I see and honor the secrets my ancestors kept silent and the burdens my father carried. I transform their survival strategies into pure love and healing. I am not a victim of the past, but the alchemist of my own destiny.
