The Mirror of Truth and Mental Grids: Why Do We Resist Change?

Ancient wisdom and deep philosophical teachings define the human being as “a part that contains the whole.” Just as a single drop of water carries all the chemical properties of the ocean it belongs to on a microscopic scale, a human carries the immense potential of existence within their core as a “seed.”

Understanding the Mirror of Truth is essential for personal growth and transformation, as it challenges us to confront our inner selves.

This is not a cause for arrogance; on the contrary, it is an existential responsibility of being a “representative” on earth. How this responsibility is fulfilled depends on how much one can reflect the supreme values of truth—in other words, how clear of a mirror one can be. This Mirror of Truth reveals our deepest selves, guiding us toward our true potential.

The truth is constant, but the mirror (perception) is variable. The more developed our perception, the more clearly we reflect that truth. The image reflected by a weak perception is blurred, broken, and incomplete. This does not distort the essence of Truth, but it distorts our way of perceiving and living it.

As we navigate through life, the Mirror of Truth acts as a guide, showing us what we often fail to see.

The Secret of the Mirror: Bumps and Hollows

The Mirror of Truth: A Path to Self-Discovery

What determines the brightness or dullness of our “mirror”? Let’s examine this surface analysis:

  • Ego and Pride: These are like “bumps” on the mirror. They inflate the image, making it look larger and distorted.
  • Fears and Complexes: These are like “hollows.” They swallow the light, making reality look dark and intimidating.
  • Fixed Ideas: These are the “deep cracks” in the mirror. They divide the image and destroy its wholeness.

As perception evolves, the bumps are sanded down, the hollows are filled, and the mirror becomes crystal clear. Ask yourself honestly: Are you willing to settle for the blurred vision created by those hollows, or will you dare to polish the mirror and watch the truth with a clear consciousness?

Is Man a Machine?

If your answer is “to polish the mirror,” know that this is simply a war of will against “mechanization.” The human mind loves to save energy. It learns something once, molds it, and wants to use that mold forever. We call this a “comfort zone,” but it is actually the mind going on autopilot. If we process every new datum with our old knowledge, what makes us different from a piece of software or a machine?

Mental Idols and “Grid Thinking”

While the world changes at a dizzying speed, why do we cling so tightly to thought patterns from 10 or 20 years ago? Because we are afraid. Those fixed ideas we create eventually become our “idols.” We call this “grid thinking.” While life is circular, fluid, and full of surprises, we try to understand it by dividing it into square grids. When change knocks on the door, we reject it, saying, “This doesn’t fit into my grid.”

Think about it: When the seasons change, you easily update your wardrobe and discard old clothes. Why can’t we show the same flexibility for our minds? Why is it so hard to change our mindset when changing a fabric is so easy?

Information Load vs. State of Perception

There is a subtle trap here: we think “those who know much, change much.” We are wrong. Knowledge that is not experienced is merely a burden on one’s back. Existence does not evolve just by storing information. It evolves at that moment of “insight”—when you put that knowledge into practice and truly internalize it.

The Summit of the Mountain and Constant Truth

Truth is constant; what changes is our capacity to perceive it. Think of it like climbing a mountain. The view from the foot of the mountain is limited. As you climb toward the summit, your horizon expands. The truth was always there, but your perspective has risen.

Conclusion: Breaking the Cycle

If your current thoughts are suffocating you and making you live the same cycles over and over, they no longer serve your truth. Be brave enough to put your “unchangeable” idols at the door, just as you discard an old sweater.

Remember: water stagnates when it doesn’t flow, and the mind rots when it doesn’t change.
